HubiChat · Halal matchmaking in Ethiopia

A second, third or fourth wife — openly, honestly, halal

Polygyny is permitted in Islam and practised in Ethiopia. HubiChat is the first place here where it is labelled clearly on both sides — on the profile and in the intention — instead of being hidden. Married men may search for a second, third or fourth wife. Women decide for themselves whether that is the marriage they want.

Stated on every profile

Marriage, or second, third or fourth wife

Each profile carries its intention in plain words: Marriage (first wife), Second, third or fourth wife, or Open to either. Nothing is left to guesswork after the first message.

ID-checked

Verified profiles, private wali contact

Profiles are ID-checked and verified. Your wali or family contact stays private until both sides agree to share it — no one is contacted behind your back.

Intention, stated plainly

How we make it honest

Polygyny is permitted in Islam and practised across Ethiopia, yet it is usually hidden. On HubiChat it is written on the profile, in the open, before anyone swipes. Every member chooses one of three intention labels — and every member can filter by them.

Label one

Marriage (first wife)

This member is looking for a first marriage, and nothing else. If you are already married, these profiles will not appear in your deck — and if you are a woman who wants to be a first wife only, you can filter every other label out in one tap.

Label two

Second, third or fourth wife

The man states his existing marriage openly, and says which position he is seeking. His profile carries the label from the first day, so no woman opens a conversation without knowing exactly what is being offered.

Label three

Open to either

Some members are willing to consider a first marriage or a later one, depending on the person and the conditions. The label says so honestly, rather than leaving the question to be discovered later.

Nobody is misled

Filter it before you ever swipe

A woman who wants to be a first wife only sets that filter once. Profiles labelled Second, third or fourth wife and Open to either are removed from her deck entirely — she never has to reject them one by one, and no man has to guess whether his situation is welcome.

The same filter works in reverse: a man seeking another wife sees only the women who have said they are open to it. Both sides arrive already informed, which is the whole point.

ID-checked Verified profiles
Private Wali contact until both agree

Verification is by ID check, and your wali or family contact stays private until both sides agree to share it. Nothing about your household is visible to anyone you have not chosen.

Conditions

Conditions we expect of a man seeking another wife

Polygyny is permitted, but it is not a light matter. Before a man searches on HubiChat, we ask him to be honest with himself about these five conditions. They are not our invention — they are the obligations the deen places on him.

One

Justice and equal provision between households

Housing, maintenance, clothing and time are to be shared fairly between your wives. If you cannot sustain two households with justice, the Qur'an is clear that one is better for you. We expect you to say so plainly rather than promise what you cannot carry.

Two

The first wife's knowledge

Secrecy is not accepted on HubiChat. A man who hides an existing marriage is removed from the site. A woman who joins a marriage without knowing is deceived, and we will not host that. Your first wife's knowledge is a condition of your profile staying live.

Three

Housing, maintenance and time

You must be able to provide a separate, dignified home for each wife, meet her maintenance, and give her real time — not only the hours left over. Members who cannot show this are asked to wait until they can.

Four

Honesty about children

State clearly how many children you have, their ages, and what you provide for them. A woman considering your profile has the right to know the household she may be joining, and what her own children's place in it will be.

Five

A written agreement on the marriage contract

Before the nikah, the terms are written down and agreed by both sides — maintenance, housing, time, and any conditions she wishes to add. This protects her rights and yours, and it is the practice we encourage in every match made here.

Our standard

What we will not tolerate

Members may be removed for hiding an existing marriage or mistreating a co-wife. Complaints from wives and co-wives are reviewed by our moderators, and a profile can be closed without notice. We would rather lose a member than allow harm.

For the woman considering it

If you are the woman considering it

A second, third or fourth marriage is your decision as much as his. Nothing on HubiChat moves forward without your agreement, and you are free to ask every question below before you agree to anything.

Ask first

How is the household provided for?

Ask plainly: where will you live, is the housing separate, who pays the rent, and what monthly maintenance is agreed. Islam requires equal provision between households — not equal affection, which no one can measure, but equal food, housing and support. A man who cannot answer this clearly is not ready.

Ask first

How is time divided?

Ask how many nights a week are yours, how that is written down, and what happens when he travels or is unwell. Ask whether the division will be the same in Ramadan and outside it. Vague answers now become long nights later.

Ask first

Can my family and wali meet his family?

Yes — and you should insist on it. On HubiChat, contact details for your wali or family stay private until both sides agree to share them. Once they are shared, the two families can sit together before any nikah is discussed.

Ask first

What happens to my children?

Ask about schooling, medical costs, inheritance and who is responsible if something happens to him. Ask whether his existing children will be treated the same as yours. Put the answer in the marriage contract, not only in conversation.

Our commitment

Complaints from co-wives are reviewed seriously

If a man hides an existing marriage, breaks an agreed division of time or provision, or mistreats a co-wife, our moderators review the complaint and may remove him from HubiChat. You can raise it privately through the contact form on the site; we reply within one working day.

Questions we are asked

Frequently asked

Is polygyny allowed on HubiChat?

Yes. Polygyny is permitted in Islam and practised in Ethiopia, so it is allowed and openly labelled here. Every profile states whether the member is seeking a first wife, a second, third or fourth wife, or is open to either.

Can I hide my profile from my relatives?

Yes. You control who sees your profile and your photos, and your wali or family contact details stay private until both sides agree to share them. If someone you know appears in your deck, you can pass and block them.

Does my wali have to be involved?

Involvement of your wali is part of a valid nikah, and HubiChat is built around that. He does not have to be on the app or see your conversations — his contact is only shared when you decide the match has reached that stage.

What if my first wife objects?

Then the marriage should not proceed in secret. Secrecy is not accepted on HubiChat: a man may be removed for hiding an existing marriage. Her knowledge and her consent to the arrangement are expected before he searches further.

Do you accept men with more than four wives?

No. Islam permits up to four wives, so HubiChat accepts profiles for a first, second, third or fourth wife only. Any member declaring more than four is removed.

Is polygamy only for men?

Yes. Under Islamic law a man may marry up to four wives while a woman marries one husband at a time. HubiChat follows that ruling, and a woman may state on her profile that she is only open to being a first wife.

Members

Two members, two honest arrangements

Both of these members agreed to share their words. Nothing here was hidden from anyone involved — that is the whole point.

“My first wife knew before I wrote to anyone. We read the profiles together, and she asked her own questions about the family. The woman I married is now her sister in the house, not a secret behind her back. HubiChat made that possible because every profile said plainly what the man was looking for.”

Dire Dawa

A man who married a second wife with his first wife’s blessing

“I was not looking for a first marriage, and I did not want to be persuaded into one. On HubiChat I could see from the first screen that a man was seeking a second wife, and I could ask about the household, the time he would give, and whether my wali could meet his family. I accepted on my own terms, with my family beside me.”

Adama

A woman who accepted a second marriage on her own terms

Names are withheld at the members’ request. Their cities and their arrangements are exactly as they described them.
