HubiChat · Halal matchmaking in Ethiopia

How HubiChat works — from first swipe to nikah in three steps

A calm, halal deck for Ethiopian Muslims looking for marriage. Swipe right to like, swipe left to pass — and your wali’s name and phone number stay private until both sides agree to be introduced.

Start with Step 1 See the home page

↓  Step 1 — Create your profile

Step 1

Create your profile

Your name, age, city, marital status and what you are looking for — a first marriage, a second, third or fourth wife, or either. ID verification takes about a day.

Step 2

Swipe the deck

Drag or scroll the card right to like, left to pass. Filter by city and by intention. Who passed on whom is never revealed — passes stay private.

Step 3

Match, then the family

When two people swipe right, both see a match with a ready-made polite opener. Wali contact unlocks only when both sides agree.

Step One

Step 1 — Create your profile

It takes about ten quiet minutes. You tell us who you are, what you are looking for, and who speaks for your family. Nothing goes on the deck until you are ready.

Your profile is written once and seen only when you and another member have both swiped right. Until that moment, no one can browse you, search you, or reach you.

What we ask for
  • Your name, age and city

Choose any of our ten cities — Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Harar, Adama, Hawassa, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Jijiga, Gondar or Jimma — or tell us where you actually live.

  • Marital status and intention

Say plainly whether you are seeking a first marriage, a second, third or fourth wife, or either. Polygyny is allowed here and openly labelled on every profile, so no one is misled.

  • A short bio

A few honest lines about your deen, your work, your family and the kind of home you hope to build.

  • Your wali's name and phone

Kept private, always. We hold it so that when a match is agreed on both sides, the families can be introduced properly — never before.

~1 day ID verification

We check your ID so every profile on the deck is a real person. Verification usually completes within about a day.

Optional Your photo

A photo is entirely your choice. Many members begin without one and add it once they feel settled here.

Private Until a mutual match

Your wali's phone number and your own details stay hidden until you and another member both swipe right.

Ready to begin? Return to HubiChat and open your profile — or read on to see how the deck works.

Step 2 of 3

Step 2 — Swipe the deck

One profile at a time, in your hand. Drag the card right to like, left to pass — or simply scroll. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is public until you both say yes.

The gesture

Right to like. Left to pass.

Swipe right to like, swipe left to pass — the same calm rhythm as the Moo app. Drag the card with your finger, or scroll it away with your thumb. On a laptop, the arrow keys do the same work: right arrow to like, left arrow to pass. Prefer buttons? The heart and the cross beneath the deck are always there.

Take your time with each profile. Read the bio, look at the city, see how the intention is labelled. There is no timer and no streak to keep.

Your filters

Choose the city, choose the intention

Narrow the deck to the places your family can realistically travel to. Every profile shows its city plainly, and you can filter across all ten:

  • Addis Ababa
  • Dire Dawa
  • Harar
  • Adama
  • Hawassa
  • Mekelle
  • Bahir Dar
  • Jijiga
  • Gondar
  • Jimma

Filter by intention too: a first marriage, a second, third or fourth wife, or either. Polygyny is allowed here and openly labelled on each profile — so you never have to guess, and no one has to explain themselves twice.

Private by design

Passes are private

If you pass on someone, they are never told. No notification, no signal, no quiet hint — nothing is revealed about who passed on whom. You may meet that person at a family gathering in Addis Ababa next month and neither of you will know. That is how it should be.

Verified faces

Real people, ID-checked

Every profile in the deck belongs to a person whose ID has been checked. Photos are optional, but verification is not — so the card you are looking at is a real sister or brother, not a stranger behind a borrowed picture.

If something is wrong

Report on every card

The report button sits on every single card. If a profile feels dishonest or disrespectful, tell us — our moderators review every report within 24 hours and remove what does not belong here.

Step Three

Step 3 — Match, then the family

When two people swipe right on each other, the deck opens into something quieter and more serious: a match, a polite first word, and — only when you both say yes — the families.

The moment of match

Both of you see it at the same time

A mutual right swipe is the only way a conversation begins on HubiChat. No one can message you before that. When it happens, both of you see the match on your screen together, with a ready-made polite opener already written for you — a warm, respectful first line in the language of your choosing, so nobody has to sit staring at an empty box wondering how to begin.

From there you may write to each other freely. Nothing about who passed on whom is ever shown, and no one is told they were passed over.

Your wali stays private

Contact details unlock only by mutual agreement

The wali name and phone number you gave at sign-up are never shown publicly — not on your profile, not in the deck, not to anyone browsing. They are released only when both sides agree to take the next step. Until that moment, your family's contact stays sealed.

When you both agree, the introductions are made properly: your wali and their wali, or the family members you have named, are put in touch with your full consent. This is how a match becomes a marriage conversation rather than a private chat that goes nowhere.

A calm first call

Our matchmaker can sit in

If you would like a neutral, respectful presence on the first call between families, a HubiChat matchmaker can join. They keep the conversation on the right footing, help with any questions about intention or timing, and step back the moment you no longer need them.

Honest from the start

Every intention is labelled

Whether a member is seeking a first marriage, a second, third or fourth wife, or either, it is stated openly on the profile before any swipe. Polygyny is allowed and never hidden. You always know what you are saying yes to, and so does your family.

Verified, not anonymous

ID-checked profiles

Profiles on HubiChat are ID-checked, so the person your wali is speaking to is the person on the card. Verification takes about a day. A photo is optional — many members begin without one and add it when they feel ready.

Members join from Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Harar, Adama, Hawassa, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Jijiga, Gondar and Jimma — and families travel for a good match. Take your time. The deck waits.

Member commitments & questions

What we ask of every member

HubiChat works because everyone here keeps the same few promises. They are simple, they are Islamic, and they protect the families on both sides of every match.

01 — Intention

Come with an honest intention

Join to marry, not to pass the time. Say plainly on your profile whether you are seeking a first marriage, a second, third or fourth wife, or either — and mean it.

02 — No early messaging

No messaging before a match

You cannot write to someone who has not swiped right on you. Conversation opens only after a match, so no sister is approached uninvited and no brother is led on.

03 — Family first

Respect the first wife and the children

If you are seeking a second, third or fourth wife, your existing household is spoken of with honour. No belittling, no secrets used as leverage, no pressure on anyone’s children.

04 — Adab

No un-Islamic content

No immodest photos, no flirtation, no music-video profiles, no language you would not use in front of your wali. Profiles that break this are removed.

05 — Privacy

No sharing screenshots

What is said between two members stays between them and their families. Screenshots of another member’s profile, photo or conversation are grounds for removal.

06 — Safety

Report, and we act within 24 hours

Every card carries a report button. Reports are read by our moderation team and answered within 24 hours — usually sooner. Reporting is confidential.

Questions members ask us

Before you open the deck

The six things Ethiopian families ask us most, answered plainly.

Do I have to pay to swipe?

No. The Free plan is ETB 0 and lets you build your profile, swipe the deck, match and talk. The Nikah plan at ETB 399/month adds unlimited swipes and priority placement in the deck, and the Family (wali) plan at ETB 899/month brings your wali into the conversation with you. You can see all three on the plans page.

Can a married man join, and how is it labelled?

Yes. Polygyny is permitted, and HubiChat is open to brothers seeking a second, third or fourth wife. Every such profile is labelled openly as seeking a 2nd, 3rd or 4th wife — it is never hidden, and a sister sees it before she swipes. A man seeking a first marriage is labelled just as clearly.

Will my photo or phone number be public?

Never. Your phone number is not shown to anyone on the site. Your photo is optional — you may join with no photo at all, and if you add one it is visible only to members you have matched with. Your wali’s name and number are held privately and are never displayed on your profile.

Can my wali see who I matched with?

Only when you both agree. Your wali’s contact details stay locked until you and your match each choose to release them. Once released, the families are introduced properly, and our matchmaker can sit in on the first call if either side would like that.

What if I only want to be a first wife?

Then say so. Set your intention to first marriage only and the deck will show you only brothers who are seeking a first wife. You will never be shown a profile looking for a second, third or fourth wife unless you change that setting yourself.

How do I delete my profile?

Open your profile settings and choose delete — it takes effect immediately and your card leaves the deck at once. Your matches are notified politely, and your photos, bio and wali details are removed from our records. If you would rather we do it for you, write to us through the contact form and we will reply within one working day.
