Safety, wali & privacy

Safe, private and family-aware

HubiChat is built for Ethiopian Muslims looking for marriage — and for married men seeking a second, third or fourth wife. Every profile is ID-checked, your wali’s contact stays private until both sides agree, and our moderation team reviews every report within 24 hours.

Create a verified profile How verification works

Shield

ID-checked profiles

Every member is checked with a national ID and a working phone number before a card goes live. Verified profiles carry a gold badge; unverified profiles are removed after 14 days.

Lock

Private wali contact

Add a wali or family contact — a parent, uncle, brother or an imam. It is stored privately, never shown on your card, and unlocks only when both of you have swiped right and both agree.

24 hours

Moderation you can reach

A report button sits on every card. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and there is zero tolerance for harassment, catfishing, un-Islamic content or requests for money.

Verification

Every profile is checked before it reaches you

A halal search deserves a real person on the other side of the swipe. Before a profile can be seen by anyone in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Harar, Adama, Hawassa, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Jijiga, Gondar or Jimma, the member completes two checks: a government ID check and a working phone number we can reach them on.

Profiles that pass both checks carry a gold badge on their card, so you always know what you are looking at. Profiles that stay unverified are removed after 14 days — they are never left sitting in your stack.

Fake profiles are the fastest way to get banned from HubiChat. A stolen photo, an invented name or a phone number that does not belong to the member ends the account, permanently.

2 Checks per member
14 Days to verify
0 Tolerance for fakes
1 Gold badge per profile
Step one

ID check

Each member submits a government ID. We match the name and photo on the document to the profile before it goes live. If it does not match, the profile does not appear.

Step two

Working phone number

We confirm a phone number the member can actually be reached on. It is used for verification and account security only — it is never printed on a card and never shown to other members.

The badge

What the gold badge means

A gold badge means the ID and the phone number were both checked. No badge means the profile is still inside its 14-day window — and after that window, it is gone.

The wali

Your wali stays private until you both agree

A halal search works best when family is part of it. HubiChat gives every member a private place to keep their guardian's details, and hands them over only when both sides say yes.

Add a parent, an uncle, a brother or an imam. It is stored privately, never printed on your card, and never shown to anyone browsing. It unlocks only after you and the other person have both swiped right and both agreed to be introduced — so families meet properly before any private conversation begins.

0 Wali details on your card
2 Agreements before it unlocks
  1. Step one

    You add your wali

A parent, uncle, brother or imam — with a name and a way to reach them. Stored privately, visible only to you.

  2. Step two

    You both swipe right

A match on its own does not release anything. Your wali stays sealed while you decide.

  3. Step three

You both agree to be introduced

Only then are the two families put in contact, before any private conversation opens.

Privacy & moderation

Privacy, moderation and the questions families ask

HubiChat is built so that a halal search stays private from strangers, honest with families, and closed to anyone who abuses it. Here is exactly how privacy works, how we moderate, and the answers we give most often.

Privacy

What stays off your card

No phone numbers ever appear on a profile card. Your passes are private: nobody is told that you passed on them, and no notification is sent. A match can hide their profile from relatives by name, so a cousin or an uncle browsing HubiChat will not find them. You can delete your account and every photo you uploaded at any time from your profile page — deletion is immediate and permanent.

Moderation

Reporting and review

Every card carries a report button. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. We have zero tolerance for un-Islamic content, harassment, married men hiding their marriage, catfishing and requests for money. A confirmed report ends the account — there is no second warning for the serious cases.

Community rules

Five rules that keep HubiChat halal

  1. 01 Honest intention

Join for marriage, not for entertainment. Say clearly on your profile whether you are seeking a first wife or a second, third or fourth.

  2. 02 Respect the first wife and existing children

Polygyny is permitted and openly labelled here. Speak about an existing family with the respect it is owed, never as a secret.

  3. 03 No contact before a match

You cannot message, call or reach anyone until both of you have swiped right and both sides agree to be introduced.

  4. 04 No screenshots or sharing of profiles

What you see on HubiChat stays on HubiChat. Sharing a profile, photo or conversation outside the app ends your account.

  5. 05 No money talk in chat

Mahr and wedding costs belong with the families, not in a private chat. Any request for money or airtime is a reportable offence.

  6. 06 Keep it halal

No indecent photos, no flirtation outside marriage, no un-Islamic content of any kind. Moderation is not a formality here.

Frequently asked

Questions families ask us

Is my wali’s phone number public?

No. A wali or family contact — a parent, uncle, brother or an imam — is stored privately and never shown on your card. It unlocks only when both people have swiped right and both sides agree, so families can be introduced properly before any private conversation begins.

Who can see that I passed on someone?

Only you. Passes are private and no notification is ever sent, so the person you passed on never learns your name or that you saw their profile.

Can I use HubiChat without a photo?

Yes. Verification needs a government ID and a working phone number, not a public photo. You can keep your photo hidden from the browse grid and reveal it only to a match you have agreed to be introduced to.

What happens if I am harassed?

Tap the report button on the card or in the conversation. Our moderation team reviews every report within 24 hours, and harassment ends the account. You can also block the member immediately so they cannot reach you again.

Is my data safe?

Your ID check, phone number and wali contact are stored privately and are never displayed on a card. You can delete your account and all your photos at any time from your profile page, and the deletion is permanent.

Still unsure about something?

Write to our safety team through the contact form and we reply within one working day. If your question is about a specific profile, include the name shown on the card so we can review it faster.
